Despite its proximity to Villa Charme Toscana in Versilia Tuscany , the property is totally secluded and private. Just down the road is the lovely hill town of Camaiore; Lucca (25 km or 15 miles) and Pisa (30 km or just over 18 miles) are only slightly farther. Day trips are easy to the five delightful fishing villages called Cinqueterre (65 km or nearly 40 miles). |
If you're here in summer you'll surely want to experience a day at the beach and immerse your self in Italian beach culture which is very entertaining, The "bella figura" along the board walk keeps us amused for hours.
If designer sun glasses don't do it for you then any time of year is great to explore the almost entirely unknown hills of the Garfagnana, right behind the villa and up into the hinter lands, they are the only part of Tuscany that has escaped the attention of mass tourism and retained the authenticity of centuries past. |

ACCOMODATION:
Luxury Tuscany Villa- Villa Tuscany is built on a hill and so all floors are at ground level. The lowest floor has a bedroom only with an exit to the garden as well as stair case to go to the next level.
On the main floor is a double living room with three sofas (one converts into a double bed), fireplace, card table and satellite TV; as well as a modern eat-in kitchen with full stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and plenty of dishes and cookware. There is also a full bath room with shower.
Upstairs are a double bedroom, a triple bedroom, and a bathroom with bathtub. The house has central heating throughout. A hair dryer is available on request. There is also telephone with a counter from which you may make or receive any type of call.

THE GARDEN AND SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT:
Your family is bound to spend time enjoying the garden, which has a table and chairs, sun lounges and an outdoor shower. Conveniently near to the kitchen is a large terrace at ground level with a wood-burning oven that can be used for pizza or for barbecuing. There is enough lawn for rowdy ball games and plenty of privacy for getting an all over tan. |

the embodiment of a medieval city.
Throughout the centuries, it preserved its city's Gothic
appearance, acquired between the 12th and 15th centuries. The whole city of Siena, built around
the Piazza del Campo, was devised as a work of art that blends into the surrounding landscape.
Once you rent your accommodation in a nice villa along the Tuscany coast you may decide to visit
Pisa or Lucca

leaning tower. Standing in a large green expanse, Piazza del Duomo houses a group of monuments known
the world over. These four masterpieces of medieval architecture - the cathedral, the baptistery,
the campanile (the 'Leaning Tower') and the cemetery - had a great influence on monumental art in Italy
from the 11th to the 14th century.
San Gimignano "delle belle Torri" ( far 100 km from our villa )
is situated in Tuscany, 56 km south of Florence. It served as an important relay point for pilgrims
on the Via Francigena to and from Rome. The patrician families, who controlled the city, built some 72
tower-houses (up to 50m high) as symbols of their wealth and power. Only 14 have survived but
San Gimignano has retained its feudal atmosphere and appearance. The city also contains masterpieces
of 14th and 15th-century Italian art.
Pienza ( far 110 km from our villa )
was in this Tuscan
town that Renaissance town-planning concepts were first put into practice
after Pope Pius II decided, in 1459, to transform the look of his birthplace. He chose the architect
Bernardo Rossellino, who applied the principles of his mentor, Leon Battista Alberti. This new vision
of urban space was realized in the superb square known as Piazza Pio II and the buildings around it:
the Piccolomini Palace, the Borgia Palace and the cathedral with its pure Renaissance exterior and
an interior in the late Gothic style of south German churches.

FORTE DEI MARMI ( far 14 km from our villa )
Forte Dei Marmi ( literally meaning ' the Marble Fort') town centre is just over 1 mile from Marina Di Pietrasanta
and shares the same stretch of magnificent golden beach and spectacular backdrop of the Apuan Alps.
Whilst Marina Di Pietrasanta is elegant and low key, Forte Dei Marmi is acknowledged by Italians as one of the most chic
and prestigious beach resorts in Italy. It was one of the first bathing beaches, established around the the turn of the
century, frequented by Royalty and latterly by film stars and 'beautiful people' vying for prominence. The town is centred
around the market the marble fortress built 1788. In the surrounding squares and streets are sophisticated pavement cafes,
world famous restaurants and designer shops offering all the luxury and atmosphere of an internationally famous, stylish and lively resort.
Versilia on the Tuscan coast has some of the widest and most immaculate sandy beaches in Italy which are unique in that they are
set against a stunning back drop of the marble clad Apuan Alps. Italians have enjoyed spending their summer in these elegant resorts since
the turn of the century. Beach lovers can spend long sun filled days lazing on an Italian beach, or if a day of sight seeing and shopping appeals more,
the Cities of Lucca, Pisa and Florence are accessible from the Coast. Music lovers will be interested to know that ?Torre del Lago? (where the maestro Giacomo Puccini lived and wrote his operas)
is only 15 minutes drive from Bridgewater's villas in Versilia. Today an open-air theatre stand by the lake where
you can enjoy Puccini's operas beneath the stars. Walking in the alps is also popular in this area of Italy and the food is some of the best that Italy has to offer simple,
fresh, rustic cuisine to satisfy the most discerning of pallets.

next to medieval village Peralta built in the 1300', was completely re-structured by a noted Tuscany designer for your own enjoyment and use. The result is a very personal and lovely house, elegant and sophisticated and yet immersed in the casual village life of Tuscany, with high privacy. The layout of the home, with fantastic bedrooms occupying the entire first floor, is best for a couple with family or who will be hosting guests (7+3 beds: 3 rooms+ Double sofa , 2 bathrooms). There are considerable comforts -- plenty of space for relaxing in private or together, an easy flow from inside to the surrounding garden and all ensuite accommodation. The views are quite remarkable as well, across neighboring rooftops and gardens to the dense green mountains or distant shimmering sea. In an article published in Italian Architectural Digest, the owner describes how she was drawn to 'a sort of fluid magic about the hills of Camaiore.

The area around Villa Salvini is a combination of flat coastal plain and dramatic mountain scenery where medieval towns and villages abound. Camaiore the nearest town is a charming town with plenty of services and activities, markets and restaurants. all within a 20 to 40 minute drive. Within a 20 to 40 minute drive are the chic beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, the lively town of Pietrasanta, home of many artists and stone sculptors, the marble quarries of Carrara, Pisa and the famous walled city of Lucca.

LIDO DI CAMAIORE 12 km FAR FROM VILLA TUSCANY

Street Markets:
These are mornings only (to 13:00 or earlier) & sell mainly clothes and domestic products (very little food). The best for clothes is Forte dei Marmi on Wednesdays, followed by Viareggio on Thursdays. Also Pietrasanta has a small market on Thursdays.There is a permanent small market in Viareggio all day, every day (shoes, clothes, etc). Camaiore has its market on Fridays - delicious cooked chickens which sell out quite quickly and a wonderful cheese stall. Also all the usual clothes, shoes, cooking equipment, etc. Lido di Camaiore on Mondays
The morning market in Lucca is on Saturdays and takes place outside the walls.

Antique Markets:
Lucca has an antique market on the third Saturday & Sunday of every month.
Pietrasanta has antique/brocante market on the first Sunday of each month. Good market and it is fun to have a drink there at the end of the day and 'people watch', especially in the caf? at the end of the square (the one with canvas chairs) LUCCA

Many of the shops in Lucca are closed on Mondays. It is great fun to rent bikes - you can bike around the ramparts and also bikes seem to take precedence over cars in the town itself. Also tapes + earphones can be rented as a guide to the town. Many of our guests have found this to be very useful.

As well as the Leaning Tower and the Duomo, Pisa has a wonderful old town with lots of shops, beautiful buildings and great little restaurants.

Banks: The Banca Toscana is open from 8:20 to 13:20 and from 14:45 to 15:45. There are several cash dispensers in Camaiore: Banca Toscana in middle of town, Intessa in square at other end of town, Risparmio di Lucca in main pedestrian street, etc.
Supermarkets:
The closest supermarket is Conad in Camaiore (open all day & Sunday to 1pm). Take the Camaiore by-pass and then turn right at the second set of traffic lights. Turn right at the T junction and it is about 25 yards down on the righthandside, just set off the road with parking in front. There is a caf? just before the entrance. Much smaller than the Coop but still excellent fruit & veg and very good value. Open through lunchtime.
The Coop in Viareggio (this side of town - go over the railway crossing and then it is straight ahead of you and signposted. It has very fresh fish, great fruit and veg. Open 8:30 to 20:00 and Sunday mornings to 1pm in the high season. The Esselunga supermarkets in Viareggio and Lido de Camaiore are open all day on Sunday. Follow the road to Viareggio and then take signs for the railway station. Esselunga is on the left before you reach the station.
Pieve shops and Old Church
Past church to T-junction. Turn right.
Fruit, Veg., Grocery: Apart from the supermarkets, Lilia and her husband Stefano in Pieve have a good selection of fruit & veg., and always fresh - also a good selection of hams, cheeses, etc. The local cheese is Pecorino (sheep's milk), and the best proscuitto in the shop is Parma "dolce".
This is our closest grocery and greengrocer and we highly recommended it. It is next door to Marco's bar & pizzeria (Bar da Pietro).
Cleaners,Laundry:
One at top end of pedestrian street, one at bottom end. Both on left hand side.
Chemists: They close at 12:30 and open again at 16:00 until 19:30. The closest is this end of Camaiore, on the roundabout. Go down to the main road, turn right and do not take the bypass but go straight towards the town. Gas station on the right and chemist on left.
General Opening Hours:
Most food shops shut from 13:00 to 16:00/16:30 and most stay open until 19:00 at least. Other shops shut somewhere between 12:00 and 12:45 and do not open again until 16:00/16:30.
Early Closing: Pieve shops and Camaiore food shops are closed on Wednesday afternoons. Conad supermarket remains open.
