Whether painting is your life or you are very much a beginner you will be inspired.
In such a wonderful setting you may want to spend most of your painting and sketching 'al fresco'. With the help and encouragement of our tutors you'll be amazed at your progress.
Our workshop sessions are experimental.
Here you will be introduced to new ideas, different techniques and media from conventional watercolours to wax and ink. How about collage or papermaking?
There's plenty of feedback aimed at personal development too - our tutors know how to get the best out of their students - in the nicest possible way.
Naturally, it's all very informal. How much or how little you do is entirely up to you. Feel free to pick and choose, to relax and enjoy the Versilia Tuscany.
Lido di Camaiore (between Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, 20 km far from Lucca and Pisa) - your home throughout your stay. Five minutes outside the walled town of Fivizzano, a side road snakes up the hillside to the medieval hamlet of Caugliano.
You will be staying in an 20th Century 'villa Chini', built for his holiday in the heart of Lido di Camaiore (Versilia Tuscany) by Galileo Chini (1873 - 1956), friend of Giacomo Puccini who also stayed here several time. Recently restaured and updated to full comfort with 20 rooms, maintens the original furniture and 20 original paintings.
Painting Course "oil colours"
This painting course is for everyone. Forget about all the complicated theories you’ve ever heard and learn how to produce paintings with knockout power.
Capture the essential qualities of the Tuscan landscape. The special light, tones and textures that are so famous.
Discover the magic of your own style and express your ideas, paint with passion!
I don’t want to see how well you can paint details, or how skilful your work is, I want you to show me what grips you. The painter who is afraid to make mistakes is not going to have much fun, remember we are not interested in your public image, but your ideas.
When you have transcended the principles of technique, when you reach within yourself, then you will be able to capture a mood and expression that is uniquely yours will you truly make art…“By their works shall you know them”…
Each picture you paint, no matter what, is a portrait of YOU!
We will paint outdoors, beginning each session with a discussion of the scene in front of us. I will talk about composition, light and colour possibilities, bringing attention to the following:
- space (negative and positive)
- how to crop, use dominance, and layer effects
- using lines, shapes and textures to add structure and interest
- awareness of size relationships and perspective.
- How to combine colours and tones
Let’s make paintings that are more than just copies, more than pretty pictures, beyond stories…
We want to release ourselves from slavish technique, from photographic idealism, from proving our perfection.

This great Region Tuscany ,
including the mountains and sea, has a thousand of faces, colors, scents and flavours.
The extraordinary variety of the landscape traditions, superb artistic and cultural patrimony, make Tuscany the emblem and the synthesis of Italy in general.
Tuscany Let the word roll over your tongue ... a charmed land, equally blessed by the genius of man and nature, and often by the combined efforts of both. Think of the vineyards: rows of baby green vines that manage somehow to march in arrow-straight formation up the gently rolling hillsides, bounded by single files of darker green cypress trees, roads leading to rust-colored farmhouses and moss-coated castles.
